Brompton modified the old Superlight with titanium alloy, equipped with new gears, everything was completely new

The Brompton P Line is the Baron of Bromptons, probably the best folding bike to date. I say this because Brompton already has the smartest folding mechanism in the industry, and through the update of the old Superlight series, almost everything has been honed and improved, the weight has been reduced, and the transmission and handling have been improved. I haven't actually ridden the P Line, but it seems to be the pinnacle and logical conclusion of what the brand has done in the past 45 years.

Like you, I might occasionally laugh at Bromptons' appearance. That unique-no, iconic-frame always looks a bit weird, especially when it is ridden by a tall person, like me. However, I will never ruin the engineering or riding experience of the most popular folding bikes in the UK, because these bikes are well-made and very fun to ride. This is why Brompton owners always seem so smug. They rode that beautiful little bike all the way, not caring, knowing safely that when they do any well-paid office work, they can fold it into the size of a record box and hide it under their desk. And it may continue to do so for decades to come.

Why would the hardcore Brompton guy want something like the Tuck bike I wrote earlier this week? Of course, it can be folded to be small, but it is like an ordinary bicycle when in use. However, this is an unproven brand, anyway, what's the fun of looking normal?

From today, there is a new Brompton in town. It is the new flagship, and I am just for it. I'm not sure why Brompton's colleagues decided to call it P Line. However, although the name may sound a bit like a toilet, there is nothing wrong with this foldable city horse. It adds A Line (also a skirt type) and C Line (also the correct name for the © symbol) in the new Brompton Line-up.

This elite folder is ultra-light, equipped with top-notch components, and is undoubtedly like a rocket. I don't necessarily say that I want to buy one, but I definitely want to try one. Alas, since my daily work these days is mainly riding the best electric bike in the world, I may have to make do with Brompton C Line Electric, although it is undoubtedly great.

The core of Brompton's appeal is that it folds so fast and so small. However, P Line adds sporting performance and a series of such advanced components, it will make Brompton lovers dizzy and breathless.

Standard Bromptons are not completely heavy, but P Line has been reduced to only 9.65 kg-nearly 2 kg lighter than Brompton C Line. This is achieved by using a new rear frame and front fork made of titanium-titanium is the sexiest metal in the world, and the only one made by David Guetta and Sia The wild carnival tunes of his creation.

There is also a very fashionable, patent-pending compact gear system designed by Brompton, which finds an ingenious "third way" between the usual Brompton gear options. It uses a derailleur, but it is 4-speed-Brompton with derailleur usually only has two-and has a similar ratio to the 3-speed hub gears used by some other Bromptons. The hub gear is great, but using one here will of course add weight. This is a cunning compromise.

The lighter weight means that Brompton will be easier to pass bridges, trains and stairs. I recently had to lift the Xiaomi Mi Smart (a foldable electric bike weighing 20 kg) up the stairs of the London Dam Bridge, so this is an attractive idea for me.

Another major feature of Bromptons is that they are more comfortable to ride than they seem. On P Line, the brand stated that titanium's natural damping characteristics, coupled with a redesigned suspension block, will make urban roads smoother. As you can see from this photo, you can really throw these little guys into the corner.

However, the originality does not end with the riding experience. The dual locking seatpost system-obviously also an improved design-has two positions. You can push it all the way down to store it, or you can keep it halfway up-or actually all the way up-and it becomes a handle for rolling your half-folded Brompton. There is more good news here: shopping trolley wheels have been made larger and lighter, which should make them less painful to use on uneven surfaces.

The main wheel is also lighter and stronger than ever before, "has been tested for hundreds of hours in all weather." Brompton said that the design of the wheels also allows for easy roadside maintenance. So this is good.

Some of the more common specification details include the P Line’s 500-lumen front and rear lights, which can be charged via USB. The brakes are old-fashioned V-shaped calipers, which is not the best choice, but it may be inevitable to reduce weight and facilitate folding. If you want to read the complete specification, you will find it near the bottom of this page. Because this is not a pipeline. This is a precision-drawn heat-treated steel pipe, using manual brazing and selected automatic brazing joints. Uh-huh.

Before we set off, Will Carleysmith, Brompton's Chief Design and Engineering Officer, has something to say to you: "With its titanium rear frame and fork, Brompton Superlight always provides a better user experience than its all-steel products. New Brompton P Line is a leap of Superlight. It is faster to ride, lighter to carry, and easier to move in all aspects of the city.

"Through a completely redesigned rear frame and lightweight components including a compact 4-speed gear set, weight has been significantly reduced and performance improved."

The brand new Brompton P Line can now be ordered in Storm Grey or Midnight Black colors, ranging from £2,100 to £2,324 depending on the option selected. Please note that due to the small number of options available, Brompton Online starts at £2,244.

I don’t have the US or Australian pricing, but it should theoretically be equivalent to $3,026-$3,134 or AU$4,160-AU$4,308. It will be available in the U.S. and Oz in January 2022.

Since his middle age, Duncan has been writing about technology and fitness for nearly 15 years, and he realized that he can no longer rely solely on his childish beauty. He used to be on TV load, but unfortunate events prevented this, so he is now mainly content to tell people, "I used to be on TV, you know." Before the lockdown, Duncan was widely considered to have been wearing clothes for T3 ever since. The best man-undeniably, he doesn't say much. After the lock, he looks forward to putting on clothes other than shorts and hoodies again soon, assuming he can still wear them. He currently writes articles about cycling, not-so-heavy fitness techniques, and everything related to the kitchen and home.
